Duty
Sports Editor, Vietnam News
Fellowship
recipient to Australia
Thuy
Ha Nguyen, 27, is currently duty sports editor at Vietnam
News, the Vietnam’s national English-language daily.
She
started her career as a reporter at Vietnam News
more than six years ago when she was a final-year English
language student. She says that many of her professional
skills came from workshops held by Australian journalists,
in addition to the Vietnam News Agency’s official
training course.
Thuy
Ha started her journalistic life reporting on diplomatic
issues and domestic events such as storms, floods and their
aftermath. For the last two years,
she has been responsible for compiling and editing the 4-page
sport coverage of the Vietnam News.
She
says becoming a female sports editor has been one of her
best achievements in Vietnam, where sports reporting and
editing is not an easy task, particularly for a woman in
a male-dominated environment.
Thuy
Ha hopes that the fellowship will give her the chance to
improve her skills, awareness and contacts, and to get to
know more about other sports – including cricket and Australian
football!
She
hopes to return to Vietnam with enhanced skills and alternative
approaches to writing and editing, and wants to share her
newfound knowledge with her colleagues, who are also very
eager to learn about Australian journalism, sports, and
the country at large.
Thuy
Ha’s fellowship to Australia is funded by AusAID.
