The Playbox-Asialink Playwriting Competition seeks to invigorate Australian playwrighters' exploration and engagement with our place in the Asia-Pacific region. The competition was created to encourage Australian playwrights to draw on the themes and styles, the history and politics, the theatre and the languages of our geographic region as means to invigorate theatre and to more truly reflect Australia's place in the world. The winning playwright will receive a prize of $5,000 (plus $2,000 supplement for re-drafting if script is selected for production). A special initiative prize of $2,000 is also open to playwrights from a non-English speaking background. The winning entries will receive a public reading in Playbox's theatre in the raw series and Playbox's interest is to develop the work of the winning playwright toward production.
