Special Projects Museum Training
Programs
In partnership with other Australian organisations, Asialink has conducted a number of short museum training programs for selected delegates in Australia and overseas. The main partner in Australia has been Museums Australia, the peak industry body. Others have been Deakin University, the National Gallery of Australia, Queensland Art Gallery, the Powerhouse Museum, and the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory. Support has come from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Business Victoria. ASEAN COCI has supported the program in the region and enabled delegates to visit Australia. The National Heritage Board of Singapore has also been a partner in the region. Comments from delegates to the ASEAN Art Museum Professionals Workshop and Study Tour, Australia April-May 1998. Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Thi Tinh, Ho Chi Minh Museum, Hanoi: "I found the Program extremely interesting and would very much like to involve staff from my Museum in professional development exchanges or visits to Australia." Pengiran Haji Hashim, Brunei Museum: "Particular areas which impressed me include display technologies, audience participation in museum displays and the concept of a 'hands-on' collection." Eric Zerrudo, GSIS Museum, Manila: "It was clear from the Program that networks, both within the country and internationally, are extremely important, and although they take considerable time to nurture and develop they are essential for successful international projects." Dr Channarong Pornrungroj, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok: "The particular areas I found interesting were marketing and audience development." Karen Lim, Singapore Art Museum "Something that impressed me very much was the professionalism, the dedication and the passion evident in so many of the curators, museum workers and directors we met."
