Supporting a national network of Australian schools to introduce and develop studies of Asia. The Schools Development Program of the Asia Education Foundation (AEF) supports a network of over 2,200 primary and secondary Access Asia schools which develop exemplary and innovative curriculum materials and professional development activities to promote the studies of Asia across all curriculum areas. The Schools Development Program is a partnership between state/territory education authorities and the AEF. Eight state/territory Access Asia Advisors manage and implement the program among schools across Australia from all education sectors. Networks of Access Asia schools meet regularly to exchange ideas and resources and to participate in local professional development activities. The AEF ensures that experience in these schools is widely disseminated to the broader education community through newsletters, journals, conferences and subject and other teacher professional associations. Each year, Asia in Schools Weeks are held to highlight the work of Access Asia schools in most states and territories. The Schools Development Program supports schools to change their curriculum. It also works with a range of education authorities to facilitate changes in curriculum policy. Further information developed by Access Asia Schools are available directly from the relevant state and territory Access Asia Advisors.
