The Asia Education Foundation works to maximise the impact of its funds by developing creative partnerships with education and government authorities, schools, universities, other foundations and the corporate sector. The major focus of this program is teacher professional development.

The AEF's current partnerships include state and territory education sectors, The Australia-India Council, The Australia Korea Foundation, The Australia-Indonesia Institute, The Korea Foundation, The Australia-China Council, The National Asian Languages and Studies in Australian Schools (NALSAS) Strategy, sixteen universities and teacher professional associations.


Asian Languages Professional Learning Project
The Asian Languages Professional Learning Project, funded by the Australian Government Department of Education, Science and Training, is a professional development programme that focuses on languages methodology, particularly intercultural language learning and developing links across the curriculum.

 Professional Development Programs
The Partnerships and Professional Development Program manages and implements a range of face-to-face and on-line train-the-trainer and professional development programs.

Access to train-the-trainer programs (for teachers in leadership positions with specific curriculum expertise) and professional development programs (for teachers with an interest in studies of Asia) can be viewed and downloaded as PDF files:

Curriculum Outcomes in Access Asia Schools
This Study was commissioned by the Asia Education Foundation (AEF) to describe what a commitment to studies about Asia means in terms of the practices of teachers and others in schools and outline strategies and conditions encouraging and supporting development of this commitment.

Australian Students' Knowledge and Understanding of Asia
Presents finding of a national sample survey conducted in November 2001 of more than 7,000 students in Years 5 and 8 in schools across Australia. Identifies levels of student knowledge, understanding and attitudes about Asia and analyses data according to student background, school policies and practices.

Outcomes from participation in the NALSAS Studies of Asia Professional Development Modules 1998 - 2001
Examines the impact of completing the Studies of Asia Graduate Certificate programs (1998 - 2001) on 18 teachers and their professional practice.

Report of National Summit - Studies of Asia in Australian schools at a crossroad: Strategic Direction 2004-6
The National Studies of Asia Summit was an initiative of the Asia Education Foundation (AEF) Advisory Board to bring together key education stakeholders, including senior representatives of education systems, sectors, teacher education, parent, principal and subject organisations, plus peak business, government and community groups to:

  • report on and discuss the current status of studies of Asia in Australian school education;
  • discuss the rationale for studies of Asia in today's changing global context;
  • recommend future directions for the studies of Asia in Australian schools; and
  • recommend specific strategic directions and priorities for the work of the Asia Education Foundation, 2004-6.

Teacher In-Country Fellowships to Asia (TICFA)
TICFA is a partnership between the AEF, state/territory education sectors, participants and a range of other funding partners. TICFA offers opportunities for teachers to participate in specially tailored in-country programs to the Asian region.
